Scientists Discover New Species Of Spider That Builds Webs Shaped Exactly Like Terms And Conditions Pages
No insect has ever been caught in one. The spider itself does not appear to read them.
Biologists at the Indian Institute of Science in Bengaluru announced the discovery of a previously unknown species of orb-weaving spider, Arachnus legalus, whose webs are structured in a pattern strikingly identical to standard software Terms and Conditions documents, complete with hierarchical clauses, sub-clauses, and an especially dense passage near the middle that researchers believe functions as an arbitration clause. In five months of study, no insect has been successfully caught in the web. 'It is technically perfect,' lead researcher Dr. Ananya Bhatt noted, 'and completely impenetrable to comprehension, which appears to be its primary defensive mechanism.' The spider itself has never been observed reading its own web.
