Parrot In Kerala Memorises Entire GST Tariff Schedule; Now Works As Tax Consultant
A three-year-old African Grey parrot named Subramanian, owned by Kozhikode accountant K.M. Vijayan, has reportedly memorised the complete Goods and Services Tax tariff schedule after being present in Vijayan's home office during client calls for two years. Subramanian can recite the applicable GST slab for any product category when asked — a skill that, according to his owner, is 'occasionally more accurate than the GST portal itself.' Word spread through the local business community, and Subramanian now operates a de facto tax consultancy from his perch, handling up to seven queries per morning. His fee is 50 grams of sunflower seeds per consultation, and his current waitlist is four weeks long. The ICAI has not yet commented on whether a parrot requires a licence to practice.
