India Launches World's First Underwater Highway; Inaugurated By PM Who Was Visibly Confused About Location
In a landmark infrastructure announcement, the Indian government inaugurated the world's first underwater national highway on Wednesday — a 142-kilometre four-lane expressway running beneath the Arabian Sea between Mumbai and Goa. The highway, designated NH-∞ (National Highway Infinity), features fibre-optic lighting, two toll plazas, and a rest stop with a Haldiram's outlet at the 71-kilometre mark. It was inaugurated by the Prime Minister via video conference from New Delhi, during which he spent 40 seconds describing the highway as 'a tunnel through mountains' before an aide leaned in and whispered something. 'The sea, yes, the sea,' the PM corrected smoothly. 'Same concept.' The highway is expected to be underwater for the foreseeable future.
